1800’s HUGE sterling chatelaine charm bracelet mechanical vinaigrette watch key purse & MORE

This is a really rare piece with some of the largest charms I have ever seen on a bracelet ( more like pieces that fit on a chatelaine). Just the purse or letter satchel that opens and closes is 1 1/4” x 1” and has a working latch. ( some of them are photographed near a modern dime so you can see just how large these are). I think most all the pieces are hallmarked too. Everything is sterling or 800 silver. I will give you a list of the charms with as much info as I can about each. The first charm is a working chased miniature button hook that is 1 3/4”. This not only has a loop that hangs it from a chain but it also has a hole that goes all the way thru it so something could be hung from either side of it. Then there is an 1890 Queen Victoria Hong Kong 5 cents. Next is a thick, double sided chased fob with hallmarks that I can’t make out. Next is a golden topaz topped watch key that measures almost 2” long with beautiful etchings on the sides. The purse is hallmarked CAN, an anchor, a lion and a small e. The next coin is a 3 ZEN 1897 that has fancy silver scroll work on the top to hold the coin on. Then there is a silver top to a chatelaine pencil. The lion is next and has a shield with a fleur de lis on it. The next one is a rotating flip fob with genuine bloodstone and carnelian ( carnelian has a crack) and is hallmarked with a small n, an anchor and a lion. The horseshoe is huge ( 1 1/4” long and 1” wide) and is marked WAB PAT 2-07-70 BCM BMC. Then there is a high riding boot with the initials JPH anchor lion and a small r. There is also a number 491553 on the bottom of the boot. Next is a working horse? bell with a red enamel cross and a saddle top and 800 on the top. The next coin is 1878 Victoria DC Brittanniar Regina FD. And last is the most beautiful bird cage shaped pomander or vinaigrette. The thick chain is also sterling and it measures 7 3/4” long. This is not a tourist charm bracelet from the 20th century, but a genuine chatelaine charm bracelet from the 19th century ( 1800’s). The clasp works fine and all the charms are in very good condition. This is a real find and I hope it gets a good home because I think these are all original to this bracelet.

STERLING NOUVEAU figural Nymph MIRROR

This is an OUTSTANDING beautiful figural antique hallmarked and DATED sterling heavy hand mirror. The exotic calla lilies stretch across the top of the mirror and the woman’s face comes out of the leaves at the bottom of the handle like a nymph in the woods. At the top of the center calla lily are the hallmarks ( see photo of the close up of them) which I am able to verify via a silver website if you want the link). At the base of the mirror, a single calla lily floats down to reach the woman’s face. This weighs over 1 POUND and is quite a substantial piece. When you turn the mirror over you see the woman’s head at the bottom and one very fancy flower that rises up to the mirror itself. The mirror is in great shape and is beveled as well. Around it is ornate sterling braid work. This hand mirror measures 10 ½" x 5" at its widest and is 1" THICK. IT has a very unusual shape to it which makes you know it had the a hand cut mirror. This is in such great shape and has wonderful silver patina to it. A true collectors item. This is one of the finest English sterling vanity mirrors I have ever seen. The marks are the lion and the anchor and AN E in lower case and WD for WD (William Davenport Birmingham 1888-1904). From what I understand it was one of the last years for him to make such beautiful pieces. There is a tiny flake missing off one of the bezel cuts of the mirror.

Exquisite Victorian Repousse ornate Matchsafe Vesta

This double sides match safe with striker bottom is so gorgeous and can has now begun to come back with a new purpose. Women are having loops soldered on the tops and are wearing them as pendants that hold dollar bills and coins and pills. What a great idea! And what beautiful pendants these make. This one measures 2 1/2” x 1 1/2” and it is as shiny and rich as sterling. The hinge is very tight so you can put a weighty item inside and it will not open. This is marked silveroid which was mainly used for watch cases. I haven’t seen many silveroid matchsafes. Silveroid is a special alloy that was developed and was fairly hard wearing and could withstand the rigors of everyday use, It was easy to polish, very hard and looked just like coin silver.

RARE 19th CENTURY GORHAM SNake Dragon Griffin Sterling PURSE frame & Florette CHAIN MUSEUM PIECE

This RARE 1860’s solid sterling Gorham double purse frame and florette chain is adorned with TWO serpents to hold the chain, four large griffins or winged dragon like creatures which each hold a long horn full of flowers and roses. I have never seen another like this ( and Gorham frames are VERY VERY hard to come by.
Truly a specially commissioned piece that was for someone very high in society. Although Gorham is probably more well known for their flatware and serving pieces, they also produced incredibly rich and fabulous silver smalls, as well as purses and purse frames .Other than Tiffany, Gorham was THE best in silver and this one tops them all. Surely a museum piece, this has its original thick solid sterling florette chain with hand soldered thick link. Notice the loop on the front of the purse that flips up and down to hold a chatelaine.
The closure works well and the it has a fancy button push in clasp. This is not small by any means and would have probably had a black fine French silk bottom. The measurements are 6 ¾” from outer hinge to outer hinge. 4” from the top of the button clap to the lowest point on the frame. Almost ½” wide and with a chain that is 17” long and 1/3” wide, this is an IMPRESSIVE PIECE! Notice the raised relief on the lip of the top of the frame. No place on this was left untouched. Even better than the photos this HIGH QUALITY antique purse is a MUST for handbag collectors as well as Gorham sterling collectors. Inside the marks are an lion, an anchor and a G. Using the Gorham hallmark index, this dates 1863-1890. IT hardly needs any polishing and since it is quite a wonderful mythological piece of art as well as a FANTASTIC purse frame, this is one of kind that needs to be in a home where it will really be treasured! This one will require insurance when shipped in the US. .

Exotic Antique Etruscan silver Bracelet & RING

This is such a detailed piece that it looks more like a piece of art than a jewelry set. The bracelet is hollow with silver backing and the front is so exquisite that you can see that it took a real artisan to make this. The work involved is tremendous. The bracelet is 6 3/4" long and 7/8" wide. IT has a pin closure. THe ring is a size 6 1/2 and the setting is 7/8" long. The ring has ornate etching all the way around the band. The bracelet has no enameling on it, but the ring does. Probably the ring was never worn and the bracelet was. The bracelet has a few dings. This is some sort of European silver, most likely 800.

RARE Chinese FIGURAL VINAIGRETTE biZARRE Silver BIG

Imagine my amazement to find this secret compartment in this very old silver fish pendant or chatelaine necessary. This fish was so detailed to begin with ( see close-ups) that you can tell where the newer reproductions actually started from. He is one of the early originals and he is 3 ½" long. Under his mouth are these straight designs that are actually the door to this exceptional piece of art. I have never seen so much work in one piece to make it do so much. OF course the fish is designed to bend and move but it is also designed to hold a piece of cotton which would hold a scent or even smelling salts. The latch works great on this and the only thing missing is its original piece of cotton. He is EXTREMELY well made and a really impressive piece too. All his gills are hinged except one in the center bottom and it looks like it was made that way. If you collect perfumes are antique Chinese pieces then this will definitely be one of a kind that no one else has. His eye is real turquoise too and he is marked China on his inner lip. I guaranteed it is OLD.

Vintage OLD Deco Chrysoprase CZECH SIGNED NECKLACE Czechoslovakia

SIGNED Czechoslovakia on the back, this drop dead gorgeous chrysoprase necklace is a real bookpiece! Exceptional workmanship along with these fantastic stones make it a real work of art. The stone, known as the favorite gemstone of Alexander the Great, has an apple green hue and is one of the most cheering colors of the stone kingdom. One one of the qualities of this stone is that of emotional uplifting. To think this necklace is almost 100 years old gives you the knowledge that it has given good fortune to all that have owned and worn it. The condition is very good and the beautiful marcasite like settings accent these fabulous open back stones! The necklace is 16" long and the largest pendant is a little over 1" wide. The faceted chrysoprase is even prettier than the photos. The delicate silver chain is made of slender and shorter links which give it a lace effect. The etched settings for these stones are only found in the deco period. These are hard to find pieces and I have brought out one more ( a carnelian) that I am also offering below

Vintage CARNELIAN etched DROP deco necklace

These necklaces are seen in many of the books on deco jewelry and are hard to find these days. This one has the most amazing etched slender link chain that matches the etched open back settings. The genuine carnelian stones are full of fire and absolutely stunning. The necklace is 16" long around the neck with an additional 1 1/2" carnelian and marcasite butterfly drop. I have always collected these and it has taken many years to get the few I have to offer. I am also selling the chrysoprase one like this this week as well. Victorian LOVE TOKEN sterling Figural Clip

In the victorian period silver coins were mounted on brooches, clips and rings as mementos of love and memorials to people who had passed. This one is really unusual and it has a clip on the back almost like a tie clip. Might have been to hook on a vest or a scarf or even a band of a hat. I think it is coin silver or sterling. This measures 7/8" across.

This KITTY is quite the cats MEOW!! This is an antique miniature photo of a cat ( looks Persian) dressed in a cape for Halloween. The oval frame is hallmarked ( front is sterling) and it measures 2 ½") tall and has its original stand. GORGEOUS DECO Chrysoprase sterling necklace

Exquisite does not begin to describe this 1920's art deco sterling and genuine chrysoprase necklace ( I have the earrings, bracelet and ring also listed). The chrysoprase stone on this is such an eerie color that illuminates and almost glows. Chrysoprase is one of the most prized varieties of quartz. Higher quality specimens often rival fine jade, for which it is sometimes mistaken. And this is one of the finest qualities, in my opinion.Prussian king, Frederick the Great, adorned his palace with objects and furniture made fully or partly of chrysoprase. His favorite ring was set with a large chrysoprase surrounded by 15 brilliant stones (presumably diamonds). Reportedly, Frederick never took this ring off. He also carried a walking stick with a knob of chrysoprase.Metaphysical characteristics attributed to the gemstone today include soothing heartache and loneliness, and promoting emotional balance. It also is said to relieve gout, eye problems and mental illness. This necklace is 16" around the neck with an additional 2" drop. The lacy floral panels that hold this amazing pendant are so fine and beautiful, it is hard to believe they are metal. Add in to this beautiful mix of metal work are brilliant marcasites ( all original). The pendant itself is a very nouveau looking leaf design with this large center open back stone. The large florettes that run up the necklace are so very detailed and they look like silver lace. This is in excellent condition and would be the type of piece you pass onto your children. I am thrilled it has survived all these years and in such fine condition.

Signed STERLING art DECO carnelian DROP Earrings

These are one of the most elaborate and well made sterling earrings that I have brought out from my collection! ( I have a necklace that will go well with these as well) These are not only signed but also hinged where the two pieces join. The length of these amazing pieces is 1 3/4” and the stones set in these bezels are genuine carnelian. The detail work on these is almost gothic and it really sets these apart from other deco pieces. These are pierced and other than a light polishing, are in great shape. Really good quality earrings are hard to find and these are so very fine!

Fancy Enamel ART DECO Vintage Watch & etched band

This period of time was when jewelry was at its best and the attention to the smallest detail showed the time invested in each piece made. This ladies watch is so very feminine with delicate looking etched links ( see close-up) and the detailed metal bead work and enamel on the watch itself. The band is made so it can change in size up to 7”. The back of the clasp on the watch band reads “Pontiac made in USA”. When I wind the watch it ticks but it does not stay ticking for long. I was told it needed cleaning so I am selling it as found. The watch band is in great shape and hangs like silk ( is not stiff). Quite a lovely piece!!

Vintage Deco Danish silver marcasite Gorgeous bracelet

Much prettier than the photos, this 20’s bracelet has glistening marcasites that sparkle and shine and bring out the raised relief and fancy etchings on this beautiful and well made bracelet. The bracelet is .835 silver, a standard of quality slightly less pure than American .925 sterling, but harder and less susceptible to damage. This type of silver is very common in European vintage silver jewelry. It measures 7 1/3” long and has its original safety chain. This has a slide in clasp that is marked 835. It is 3/4” wide and has nice weight to it too. This is in great shape and really much nicer than the photos.

Antique English Sterling Hallmarked Baby Rattle Whistle

Silver rattles( teething-sticks ) have been traditional christening presents for well over 200 years. Sometimes called Elizabethan inventories, rattles were a combination of a whistle & bells to create a noisy toy that could amuse a child for hours. Silver was known to kill bacteria and was known as a natural antibiotic and preventative against infections which would be a very good reason for its use in items given to babies. This repousse antique silver baby rattle is embossed on both sides with ornate scrolling patterns and has a beautiful mother or pearl teether. It's nicely detailed and has a working whistle on the end. Attached are 2 bells that still dingle It's in excellent condition with no dents or damage and measures 2 1/2" long. The Hallmarks are on both sides. This dates about 1901 and was made in Birmingham according to the marks which are an ANCHOR LION N. This was made by Adie & Lovekin Ltd. (c.1880-1910). This company made everything from pin cushions to pen knives and has a reputation for their attention to detail and high quality items. This came from the same estate as the GORHAM SNake Dragon Griffin Sterling PURSE frame I have for sale. I guarantee this is an antique rattle and not a reproduction.

RARE Victorian sterling enamel Collar necklace Bracelet FIT FOR A QUEEN

This is one of the most fantastic antique sets I have ever sold and I really hope it gets a GREAT home. It really should be in a museum because the key hole design on each of the MANY filigree enameled links is like something out of the Victorian Jewelry books that you can only dream about. Super nice quality and very heavy ( 144 grams), this domed necklace fits on the neck like it was meant for royalty. Because of the unique shape it actually is dimensional when worn and because of there are links on both sides of this masterpiece, it fits so well you can hardly tell it is on . You are buying BOTH the necklace and the bracelet. The necklace has hidden clasp so it is one continuous beautiful snake like collar. It measures 15 1/4” when closed and 1 1/4” wide. The bracelet is 7 1/2” long and 1 1/4” wide and it has its original safety chain and also has a hidden clasp. The black enameling is subtle enough to bring dimension to each and every panel ( 24 in the necklace) and other then light wear to the black in some places this set is in GREAT condition. Not signed and certainly a piece that was probably one of a kind, this is the ONE to be lucky enough to own and to brag on how only YOU have such a marvelous old ( late 1800-1900) set!!!
